CURRENCY AND EXTERNAL TRADE
The monetary unit of Paraguay is Guarani, divided in 100 cents (exchange rate retailer in July of 2001: 1 US $ = 4.250 Guarani).
The Paraguayan financial system is presided over by the Central Bank of the Paraguay, originator of Guarani. At the same time the National Bank of Development (state) it focuses their efforts to the creation of new industries and agricultural plantations, but it crosses serious financial problems. At the moment the government discusses the alternatives or of cleaning up or of liquidating to the last state bank.
In 2000, the Paraguayan exports represented only something more than 41% of the imports. The balance of the commercial scale in 2000 was negative for 690 millions of US $.
The main cared products are: fuels and lubricant, consumption goods and of capital, alimentary products, iron and their factories, non ferrous metals and their factories, and paper.
The two main departures exported by Paraguay are cotton fibers and seeds of soya. It is also exported elaborated meat, wood, several factories and oils. As for the imports, the main items are machinery and motors, teams of transport and accessories and fuels and lubricant.
The main commercial partners from the Paraguay are the integral countries of the Mercosur, with 63% of the exports in the 2000, mainly Brazil to which was dedicated 39% of the total of exports and 25% of the imports, respectively.
